The American salad is one of the most popular side dishes at the barbecue party. There are numerous recipes and variations. We tried and adapted some recipes before we found a really good one. Ultimately, this recipe is our favorite.

The Following Ingredients Are Needed

1,5 kg cabbage

1 small onion

250 g mayonnaise

1 carrot

100 g sweet cream

2 tablespoons white wine vinegar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Sugar

1 teaspoon of celery seeds

Salt and black pepper

The white cabbage is added together with the carrot, which is also finely grated and an onion, which is cut into small cubes in a bowl. For the sauce stir together mayonnaise, cream, white wine vinegar, lemon juice, sugar, and celery seeds and taste the sauce with salt and pepper. The celery seeds should be crushed in a mortar a little so that they better develop their flavor.

The finished sauce is then poured over the salad and mixes well. Then put the salad in the fridge for at least 5 hours, better overnight to pull through. Rinse well before serving.

You normally do not get celery seeds in the supermarket. You can get it in pharmacies, but usually, have to order the seeds. Therefore, you can also order the celery seed online.
